Here in Georgia it's rodeo season. All the local cowboys and cowgirls showed up at our arena ready to rope, ride and race against the clock. I believe most everyone in my little town showed up to support this event with the proceeds going to a local children's charity.

Back in 1862 a young dentist, John Gilleland, living outside Athens GA had designed what he thought was the ultimate killing machine. A double barreled cannon. The only problem was he didn't have the money to have it forged.

Tonight I was sitting out back talking with my wife and happened to notice a full moon with Jupiter close at hand. I got my tripod and camera together and set up for some quick shots. At first I thought the shoot was going to be a bust due to cloudy conditions.

Last week a buddy of mine, who is the team medic for the Atlanta Rollergirls, acquired me a press pass to photograph a roller derby contest. Not really knowing what to expect I loaded my camera gear and off I went to the Yaarab Shrine Center in downtown Atlanta.

...we all have them in one form or another. They may be simple, such as a sea shell or as elaborate as an artifact. With me, it's just rocks. As I have traveled around the world it's become a custom for me to pick up a rock from wherever I go. I keep them on a shelf in my study.

There are few words in the southern dialect which raise the hairs on ones neck like kudzu or fire ants. Having had survived the both of them I feel qualified to tell this tale.

Yesterday I spent most of my time unsuccessfully trying to capture humming birds in flight. Today I set out armed with the proper information to accomplish this goal. Thanks to A. Macarthur sharing some technical pointers with me.

Well it's been a year to the day since I joined Newsvine. Through all the political ranting, mud slinging, finger pointing and trolls I have managed to make some great friends. However, we never forget our first friend here on the vine. Mine, as with many others, was rottlady.

Just a quick one here. I was watching our humming birds today and managed to get a picture of one sitting on my fence. They are some fast little buggers and this is the first one I have caught on camera. Enjoy.

Last month I was in Fairbanks AK awaiting an early morning flight at the airport. Given the fact I was there at 0430 and had not yet eaten breakfast, I went on a search for the deli. I had it my mind I would grab a cup of coffee and some sort of egg biscuit to carry me over.
